Manchester United Football Club is one of the most succe sful and popular clubs in the world. Nearly 5% of the worlds population supports Manchester United, with fan bases spread throughout all continents. No one can sustain arguments against the capabilities of the recent Manchester United squad. The teamwas once again in the pot of contenders for the Premier League, after having won it an incredible 9 times since it was set up in 1992, meaning an astonishing 60% of domestic league titles since 1992. Including the 2007/08 season, this percentage goes up to 62.5% of the title since the Premier League was established in 1992.With the increasing financial power of clubs like Chelsea, the team had to follow the trend of selling out to foreign investors. This caused widespread turmoil amongst fans worldwide, who were questioning if the new American investors would respect the clubs long history. The Glazers family have sufficiently proved critics wrong, backing Sir Chase Roullier Jersey Alex up with their financial supremacy in the transfer market. Surely, had it not been for the Glazers, the 50 million plus spending spree of the 2007 summer would have been impo sible. The takeover by the Glazers in June 2005 created a minor schism in the fan base of Man Utd, from which another team named FC United emerged.Although fans were convinced that the 2007-08 season would be as succe sful as the 1998-99 season, with the club doing the treble once again, Man Utd were eliminated from the FA Cup by Portsmouth. However, this was arguably the least important of all three competitions. The 2008/09 season looks to be promising for the Red Devils and all proud supporters, as the biggest club in Europe seeks to build upon its succe s and retain the trophies.It is the greatest club tournament in the world and to win it elevates you into a different level altogether. When we won it in 1999 I said at the time I hoped we would win it again but I wanted to enjoy it a bit more as we scored two goals in the last two minutes.This time I had to wait until the last penalty kick had been taken.
