Hey folks,
So this has been on my mind for a while. Why is it that being caring in your job feels like this rare bonus trait instead of just... normal? Especially in roles that involve people or animals, you'd think kindness and empathy would be standard, right?
I was reading this one profile earlier: check it here, and it kind of hit different. The way it talked about the approach and mindset, it didn’t feel like some checkbox bio. It actually sounded like someone who cares. And it made me realize how often I’ve had the opposite experience.
Like, why do so many people act like being patient, kind, or attentive is “above and beyond”? Shouldn’t that be the baseline? I’ve had vet visits where I felt rushed or like I was just a number on a list. But then every once in a while, someone takes their time, asks how you’re doing—not just the pet—and it sticks with you.
I guess my question is... do we just accept that being caring is rare? Or should we expect more from professionals in general? I don’t mean fake-nice either, I mean people who actually give a crap about the job and the people involved.
Would love to know your thoughts. Has anyone else been surprised (in a good way) by someone who genuinely seemed to care? Or disappointed when they didn’t?
