  • What is Gleevec (Imatinib)?

Gleevec is a derivative of 2-phenylaminopyrimidine (CH2SO3H). Studies in cell cultures of CML patients have shown that Gleevec suppresses the growth of Ph-positive cells, with almost no effect on Ph-negative cells. The mechanism of the action of Gleevec that blocks the activity of ABL-tyrosine kinase is associated with the incorporation of the drug molecule into the place in the ABL-tyrosine kinase molecule - the ATP pocket, where ATP is usually embedded. Imatinib price is not cheaper like other cancer medicines.
