Best mascots

Greetings, everyone! I have a question for everyone more or less experienced in design. Thinking of creating a mascot for my startup. How do I avoid it feeling cheesy?

Cheese is optional This article about mascot for brands says: Start with your brand’s personality—playful? Authoritative? Then design a mascot that amplifies it. Example: Salesforce’s SaaSy the Bear (yes, really) makes CRM feel friendly. Avoid overdesigning—simple shapes work best. Test it in B&W first. If it’s unrecognizable, simplify. And for god’s sake, no wink-wink ‘quirky’ poses. That’s my opinion so don’t hate on it.
